This painting is an example of vanitas or memento mori art.

The word Vanitas comes from the word Vanity and is used in the book of Ecclesiastes by King Solomon, " Vanity of Vanities ".

It is to remind the viewer that material things in life are transient, and the skull reminds us that life is really very short.

So perhaps Solomon is suggesting that we should concentrate on the lasting qualities in life like love and enjoy the fruits of our labour.

Also having entered artworks to the Sketch for Survival Competition run by the Explorers Against Extinction conservation charity I have been selected as a finalist in 2024, 2022 and highly commended in 2021.

I am based in Kent and create unique pieces of art, undertaking commissions which include pet portraits.

My work is also included in private collections.
